Winners Announced for 2012 Distinguished Leadership Awards

Tallahassee, Fla. – At last night’s ceremony, Leadership Tallahassee announced the 2012 winners of the Distinguished Leadership Awards, as well as honored the recipients of this year’s Lifetime Leadership Award.

“The Distinguished Leadership Awards is the premier leadership recognition event for this area.  My committee and I are pleased with the support from the community in celebrating leaders who have stepped up to make Tallahassee better.  We are also excited that the event was sold out, with proceeds going to our Youth Leadership Tallahassee program,” Nan O’Kelley, Chair, Distinguished Leadership Awards.

The awards ceremony, now in its 18th year, serves as Leadership Tallahassee’s major community fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting the Youth Leadership Tallahassee program. Throughout the ceremony, deserving leaders were honored in each of the following four categories:

Lifetime Leadership Award: Recognizes an individual who has made significant, tangible leadership contributions to the Tallahassee community for more than 25 years.  This year’s winner is: Honorable T.K. Wetherell

Leadership Pacesetter: This individual is blazing a trail for others to follow by engaging in community leadership activities – and achieving tangible results – as a newcomer to Tallahassee, at a relatively young age (under 50), or in a non-traditional field.  Individuals with less than 10 years of community involvement would be eligible for this award.  This year’s winner is: Cecilia Homison, First Commerce Credit Union

Servant Leadership: This individual has demonstrated consistent community leadership and begun to achieve results beyond a single field of endeavor, combining efforts in business and non-profit organizations. This year’s winner is: Mike Sheridan, FMBC Benefits Management Company

Leader of the Year: Awarded to an individual whose ideas, vision and hard work have achieved significant, tangible benefits to the community within the past year. This year’s winner is: Dr. Jim Murdaugh, Tallahassee Community College
