College Leadership Tallahassee Present Their Projects

By Leadership Tallahassee, 01/26/2010

Members of College Leadership Tallahassee Class 1 braved the cold to present their projects in Pecha Kucha format at 621 Gallery on January 12. This amazing group of college students has worked on various projects during the fall semester. Some of the projects included:

Tallahassee's Hands - connected college students to non-profits organizations who need volunteers

The Good Book Project - developed a questionnaire for reluctant readers and collected books for local middle school libraries

Pyra-Mentoring - developed a mentoring program targeted at students at risk of dropping out of school

Bridging the Gap, One Museum at a Time - worked with the Brogan Museum to develop ways to bring college students outside the "university bubble"

Bond Community Health Center's World AIDS Day activities - developed activites to encourage an at-risk population to get AIDS tests

Internships - worked to increase internship opportunities for Tallahassee Community College Students

HOPE Community - developed a community donation program for items needed by the people served at the Hope Community.

What is Pecha Kucha, you might ask? PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It's a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace. Tallahassee is one of 266 cities worldwide to hold these events. College Leadership Tallahassee is also pleased to announce that it was a recipient of a Knight Foundation Donor Advised Fund grant - from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
